Marc Victor Already Planning to Run Against Kyrsten Sinema, Expects Help From Ron Paul

Democratic Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema has been in Congress for a little more than six weeks now, but libertarian-minded attorney Marc Victor is already planning to defeat her in 2014.

We've heard from his campaign that Victor, who ran as the Libertarian option against Richard Carmona and then-Congressman Jeff Flake in the recent Senate election, will be running as a Republican.

Is God Just Pretend?

I have never been one who cared much for political correctness, and the subjects of religion and politics are two subjects I most often like to talk about. I am sure one of the main reasons is because I am a non-conformist; I don't act in a particular manner because society says that I should. If society decides something is taboo, chances are that is the exact thing I will talk and write about. I also have several articles that are of a political nature, so if speaking about the unspeakable is something that is damaging to your delicate senses, then you should pass on anything I may write because those are going to be the subjects.

I will be writing this as an atheist for atheists who may find themselves debating people of faith and may not be as versed on all the talking points, but also for people of faith who are not afraid to look at other views without feeling threatened or offended. You should never be unwilling to look at other points of view, no matter how much you believe you already know the 'truth.' Many people of faith have never taken the time to really even investigate their beliefs, they just accepted them...after all that's why it's called faith.

My main purpose in writing this is not to cause offense, but that is almost certain to happen. I can understand why this would be; no one likes to have their beliefs called into question because it may make them appear to be foolish or stupid. This would be the main reason for people getting upset and not even wanting to discuss the matter, because deep down inside they also know it does not sound believable. By not talking about it they do not have to try and defend the indefensible. But is it better to hold onto beliefs that you may have not examined in full, or examine them and determine if they are really worth holding onto at all? This is written from an atheist's point of view, and will be critical of many things sacred to religious people. There is no way to discuss these topics without offending someone.

As a Libertarian I believe people should have the right to believe in anything they want to believe in...no matter how silly or implausible others may believe those things to be. With that being said, I would like to point out that having a right to your belief, does not void someone Else's equal right to have an opinion opposite yours and be vocal about it. You do not have a right to not have your beliefs challenged or to not be offended.

I have tried to write this in what I feel is as least offensive tone as I could, because it was important to me for atheists and theists alike to be able to read this. But please understand that I am an atheist, and as such it is hard for me to be as non-bias as some of the people reading this would like, just as it would be hard for a theist to write about atheism I am sure. But with that said, I am sure most will agree that for the most part it is non-offensive as is possible.

Atheists that will use this, or any other book, must be aware that it's not very likely they will succeed in 'convincing' a person of faith to change his or her opinion of their faith... if that is your goal. You may feel frustrated and annoyed because the person you are talking to cannot easily see what you see so clearly. Most likely this person will be as equally frustrated that you cannot fathom the greatness of their God...

Hey Brother Can You Spare a Buck?

It seems that everywhere I go these days I am being beseeched by someone or something. It used to be that other than the random bum on the corner, the only time I would be harassed was from the government in the form of taxes or other types of theft, but lately it seems like I can’t go anywhere without being besought . I had become accustomed to the bum on the corner with the “I will work for food” sign in hand and the occasional parking lot confrontation of “hey brother can you spare a dollar?” but lately the begging has elevated to a whole new level to include even that of the corporate world. Today it is not possible to go anywhere without being beseeched in some way.

What It Feels Like To Be A Libertarian

Political analysts frequently consider what it means to be a libertarian. In fact, in 1997, Charles Murray published a short book entitled "What It Means to Be a Libertarian" that does an excellent job of presenting the core principles of libertarian political philosophy. But almost no one ever discusses what it feels like to be a libertarian. How does it actually feel to be someone who holds the principles described in Murray’s book?

I’ll tell you. It feels bad. Being a libertarian means living with an almost unendurable level of frustration. It means being subject to unending scorn and derision despite being inevitably proven correct by events. How does it feel to be a libertarian? Imagine what the internal life of Cassandra must have been and you will have a pretty good idea.

Imagine spending two decades warning that government policy is leading to a major economic collapse, and then, when the collapse comes, watching the world conclude that markets do not work.

Death of Libertarianism

Those who know me know I define myself as an Anarcho-capitalist more than a Libertarian. I was never much on party politics so when describing myself politically I preferred the term Anarcho-capitalist to Libertarian because I did not associate myself with a voting group. With that said I always supported many Libertarian principles and admired several Libertarian candidates such as Harry Brown and Ron Paul.

Today I have lost what little respect I once had for the Libertarian Party with their nomination of Bob Barr. Libertarians are supposed to be for less government and more freedom. The Libertarian Party nomination of Barr as their candidate should be a slap in the face to any real Libertarian. Barr is not a Libertarian, never has been and he has made it obvious never will be.

Gas Puzzler

Soon after landing on American soil, I found myself lining up for gasoline for 45 minutes, and that told me something was wrong with this land of free enterprise. When all the establishment media I could lay hands on failed to explain the shortage, I knew it was worse. When only a fringe magazine (The Libertarian Review, July/August 1979, with outstanding articles by D.T. Armentano, Murray Rothbard, Roy Childs et al) offered a credible explanation, I learned where to go for more good sense on all manner of anomalies; and so in due course I encountered Strike The Root.
This year, there aren't any gas lines (though stay tuned), but the price seems outrageous; and in particular, its rate of increase recently has been amazing. Once again, establishment media offer no credible explanation; reports of gas prices often follow weather information, which seems quite appropriate since they have little idea what causes either. But this time, there's a difference: I've not yet seen a fully credible explanation of what's going on even in libertarian literature. That's a first.

Why Be Libertarian?

"To have a passion for justice, one must have a theory of what justice and injustice are."

The true test, then, of the radical spirit, is the button-pushing test: if we could push the button for instantaneous abolition of unjust invasions of liberty, would we do it? If we would not do it, we could scarcely call ourselves libertarians, and most of us would only do it if primarily guided by a passion for justice.

The genuine libertarian, then, is, in all senses of the word, an "abolitionist"; he would, if he could, abolish instantaneously all invasions of liberty, whether it be, in the original coining of the term, slavery, or whether it be the manifold other instances of State oppression. He would, in the words of another libertarian in a similar connection, "blister my thumb pushing that button!"

The Ron Paul Vote: A Headache for John McCain?

There is plenty of focus these days on whether Barack Obama can win the lion’s share of the 18 million or so voters who backed Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries and caucuses.
It is a worthy question. But just as important may be the ultimate destination of the 1.2 million voters on the Republican side who cast their ballots for Ron Paul. For while there has been a rapprochement of sorts between Sens. Clinton and Obama, that has not been the case as yet between Rep. Paul and John McCain.
The outspoken libertarian, anti-Iraq war congressman from Texas has been regarded by many in the GOP as a “nutty uncle,” with his ubiquitous campaign signs and dedicated cadre of Internet-savvy supporters. Asked recently by Newsweek what his relationship was with Sen. McCain, Rep. Paul responded: “It pretty much doesn’t exist. He has his beliefs and I have mine, and they just don’t come together very well.”

Judge Pro Tem Kicked Off Bench

A Chandler attorney was kicked off the bench Thursday an hour into his first shift as a judge after he announced in writing that he would disqualify himself from all drug cases because drug laws conflict with his libertarian principles.
By the end of the day, the Arizona Supreme Court's chief justice stripped Marc Victor of his authority to work as a judge pro tem, which are attorneys who serve for free as temporary judges.
"I was pretty shocked," said Victor, 34, a criminal law defense attorney who also serves on the legal committee for the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, also known as NORML. "Either you take a certain philosophical position or you can't be a judge."
